Info:
REFUGEE was a Canadian rock band that enjoyed great success in the mid 1980's. Originally known as "Michael Fury" the band released its first album while in the process of changing some of the original personnel. The founding members were Myles Hunter, Rob Kennedy, and Martyn Jones.
Their management had enjoyed earlier success in the late seventies with the CBS band "Zon" so when former Zon keyboard player and singer Howard Helm was seeking a new band, Michael Fury was an opening close at hand. The last member of Refugee's best known line-up came aboard when former Helix drummer Brian Doerner joined. Brian's energy and impeccable meter brought a solidness to the band not previously enjoyed. This created an exciting and talented group of musicians that caught the attention of Chrysalis Records in New York. The original Michael Fury album was reworked with some new tunes and the new blood and after deciding on a name change, "REFUGEE" was born.
The release of "Affairs in Babylon" was a very exciting time for REFUGEE who began to tour in the U.S. and Canada and drew great critical attention for the depth of the lyrics and the tremendous musicianship. The live show was exciting and drew great audiences especially on Canada's East Coast. The video for "Exiles in the Dark", the first single, was shot in New York City. That trip was one of the most exciting times for REFUGEE on the road. Many new friends were made and the energy level of the Big Apple was not lost on any of the band members. The more that Refugee toured and recorded together the better the band got. That early excitement is very evident in the album "Affairs in Babylon" and even though the band did not stay with Chrysalis, it continued to grow and recorded a second album entitled "Burning From the Inside Out".
"As the keyboard player for Refugee I enjoyed immensely the times of the first album and whenever I listen to any of the live Refugee recordings, (some tracks are released here for the first time), the passion and energy jumps out of the speakers at you. I hope all who listen to this recording feel some of that vitality and strength that made REFUGEE one of the great Canadian bands of the eighties."
MTM MUSIC is proud to have “Affairs In Babylon” first time on CD as a part of the successful MTM CLASSIX collection. The album features 4 unreleased bonus tracks and the booklet offers liner notes of Myles Hunter, Martyn Jones and Howard Helm.
