Change of Heart are a back with a vengeance! First causing a stir back in 1998 with their self titled debut album (ESM 036) these boys from the North East of England captivated the melodic rock scene with a very spirited performance. The debut was recorded in Parr Street Studios, Liverpool, and used the talents of Steve Morris and Chris Ousey (Heartland) along with Steve Millington from the “Wax”, a band that also featured 10cc members Graham Goulden and Andrew Gold.
Change of Heart really captured the heart of the British melodic rock scene when they played the “Gods” festival in the year 1999 which spurred them into recording their second album “Continuum” in 2000 (ESM 053). This album really put them on the map and their balance of rockers and ballads was just right, Change of Heart were a force to be reckoned with!
The second album was indeed a fine performance and was very well received by fans old and new, the sound was engineered in a way that brought out the best in the band. However, soon after this a few things happened, Trevor Hart (Drums) left the band along with Gary Howe (Bass) to seek new pastures.
John Footit at the time was involved with a Bon Jovi tribute band and this was taking up a lot of his time, Dave Chapman is an active musician and several other projects saw his time stretched to the full, anyone who was lucky enough to see the ELO tribute band “Magic” (also a Queen tribute band) would have seen Dave in the limelight handling all the keyboards. Meanwhile principal songwriter and vocalist Alan Clark has been busy song writing and five years down the line from “Continuum” the nucleus of the band, namely Alan, John, and Dave have returned with a brand new album “Truth or Dare”.
Recorded in the Jelly Jam studio's Runcorn, Cheshire Heartland Producer Steve Morris took care of production, as he did on their debut and Pete Coleman handled the mixing.
The result? A fantastic mix of songs that will simply take your breath away.. the first track “Burned” is an “in your face” rocker that boasts a strong chorus, driving guitars and swirling keyboards. Change of Heart have such great talent, there are many influences mixed in there, such as Bon Jovi, Journey, Whitesnake and Boston, the latter is very apparent in the guitar and keyboard department.
The entire album is littered with beautifully executed keyboards and guitar solo's rounded off by Alan's powerful lead vocal work. The addition of FM's Pete Jupp on drums and Steve Overland on backing vocals is a winning formula that can only place Change of Heart back at the top when it comes to great British melodic hard rock.
A very welcome return!
